The Hearthkin Calendar
In a few lines
Twelve months of 30 days in six-day weeks, four phases that double as seasons, and eight major festivals.
Notes
Shape of the year
- The year has 360 days: twelve months of 30 days, in six-day weeks.
- The days are Sentinel's Watch, Ember's Glow, Chain's Burden, Forge's Call, Shadow's Veil, and Dawn's Light.
- The weekend is Shadow's Veil and Dawn's Light. Dawn's Light is a day of rest for everyone, or should be. Some people work all six days, such as the militia.
- Prose keeps scale clear: "the Age of Redemption" for the Age, and "the Redemption months" for the phase of the year.
Phases and seasons
Each phase of the year shares its name with an Age and a season.
Weather
- Average highs run from 34°F (Harvest) to 89°F (Wrath). Average lows run from 18°F (Harvest) to 66°F (Wrath).
- Wrath is the hottest and most somber month, with drought.
- Chains brings the storm peak, with hurricanes and tempests on the coast.
- Winter slows travel. Frozen rivers allow ice crossings and shut down conventional trade.
Festivals
The festivals below are major holidays celebrated across the continent, and the King appears on each of them. The Harvest Festival, in the Month of Harvest, is the largest celebration of the year. Lesser holidays are celebrated only in a specific county, city, town, or village. None are listed or developed yet.
