Canon Notes: Word Changes and Resolved Conflicts

In a few lines

Which words changed, which sources lost when they disagreed, and what was left out on purpose.

Notes

When sources conflict, the timeline wins, then the Story Bible, then the calendar, then the lore PDF.

Word changes

  • King's Valley becomes Emberdown, for both the continent and the world.
  • Solim is obsolete. The planet is Everstead.
  • Royal People, Hoshenim, and Hosham become Hearthkin.
  • Earthpeople and Kariah become Landfolk. Harar becomes Mountainfolk, Yahmm becomes Oceanfolk, and Avirah becomes Skyfolk.
  • Gnomes become Landfolk, dwarves become Mountainfolk, and elves become Irin.
  • Chaium becomes Balendin, used only in liturgy.
  • Maniach and Mane'aC become Estezaru in liturgy. The common name is Hearthmanna.

Conflicts resolved

Where the Story Bible conflicted with other sources, it was used:

  • Clans: the Gimbal file says Land and Air. Use Landfolk and Skyfolk, with Airfolk as a rural alternative for Skyfolk.
  • Elves: the lore says elves. Use Irin.
  • Government: the lore says the national council is advisory only. Use a senate that enforces only the King's laws, through influence over guilds and other organizations.
  • Planet: the lore calls the world Solim, which is obsolete. The planet is Everstead.
  • Names: the Gimbal file uses Basque forms, which stay lore. Stories use English only, and Basque is added in editing if a plot needs it. The birth names are the lore's 60 gnome names; the timeline's Hebrew clan names are being converted to English.
  • Dating: the timeline spreadsheet is canon and trumps every other dating system. Its years replace the PDF's AC years.
  • Grid map: the lore's grid map is obsolete and shows a fictitious continent. It is left out, with its features (Waterburrow, Fort Clockhaven, the two rivers, Serpent Lake).
  • Town names: the lore's whimsical list (Wagglesprock, Burblefen, Fizzlethorpe) is excluded as a judgment call under "never cartoonish."
  • Crystal colors: the Crystalline Enchantment page asks whether there are five or six colors. The Story Bible lists six, with amber being yellow.

Left out on purpose

Flora and fauna lists, war mastiff bond rules and endurance tables, kobold war customs and origin myths, Skyfang rank colors, wartime government options, clockwork gadget ideas, gnomish clan and family name lists, and all character gear and biography. Most of these are already in the app on their own pages.

Source tags

The Story Bible tags each line by source: bible, calendar, lore PDF, timeline, or drafted by Claude without a source. Pages in the app drop the tags. Anything drafted by Claude is marked "first draft to edit" or "sketch," and the page carries the tag needs-review.
